Monday June 29, 2009
Denver Story Trek is a program from Historic Denver, Inc., that provides historical information about city landmarks. Denver residents and visitors can take a self-guided tour of the Mile High City, armed with only a map and a cell phone. The free program gives insight into famous Denver landmarks as well as private residences of historical interest.

I just saddled up on my townie bike and hit some of the historical landmarks cited through Story Trek Denver. What a blast! I live here, and so many times I’ve thought about this same concept, of cruising to all these cool landmarks as a purposeful way to learn about the city and just get out and ride. Well, some like-minded city types hit upon the same idea and added signage and phone numbers with narrative descriptions that tell you exactly what you’re looking at and why it’s, well, important in the Denver scheme of things. I think there are over a couple dozen sites like this, from the Molly Brown House to Governer’s Mansion. It’s a great way to understand Denver’s roots and, by bike, a fantastically fun way to engage the city on two wheels. Do it.
I haven’t tried it out on my bike yet, but it sounds like fun! The sites in Capitol Hill seemed pretty close together for a good bike ride through the city.
