"Denver's vibrant energy is felt throughout every neighborhood in the city, due to the thriving creative community that calls The Mile High City home," said Jayne Buck, vice president of tourism for VISIT DENVER, in a statement. "With a thriving public arts program, the second-largest performing arts center in the nation, 40 metro-area museums, numerous artist studios and intimate theaters, Denver Arts Week allows residents and visitors to be easily immersed in the artistic culture of the city."
Night of the Museums was sparked by a French idea that has spread to the U.S. Twenty-two museums across the metro area plan to stay open late from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday to allow residents an extra slice of time to savor Denver's artistic scene.
"What started in Paris, has now spread across Europe with 3,000 museums participating this year in the European Night of the Museums," said Richard Scharf, president & CEO of VISIT DENVER, in a statement. "So many families want to visit a museum together, but between work and school, it's often hard to find the time. By staying open all evening on a Saturday night and offering all our museums for free, we create a special event that's great for families, or a unique date night, or just a time to get out and see a new museum you have never experienced before."
