American photographer Garry Winogrand photographed women on the streets of New York City and other locations in the 1960s and 1970s. While many of subjects were not aware they were being photographed, this joyful woman was aware of the camera's lens, according to Eric Paddock, photography curator at the Denver Art Museum. The series of photographs Winogrand made shows he approached the woman as she was with a group of friends, and then ended up photographing her alone. The outline of Gary Winogrand's reflection can be discerned in the window by the mannequin wearing the tuxedo.
"Garry Winogrand: Women are Beautiful" is on display from Jan. 29 - Sept. 16, 2012 at the Denver Art Museum.
