Elitch Gardens, a Denver institution since 1890, takes its name from the lush gardens at its original location on the West side of Denver. The theme park moved to its downtown location in 1994, which allowed for more rides but less gardens.
Six Flags used to own Elitch's, but sold the park to Florida-based PARC Management in 2007. The Twister II is the park's most popular rollercoaster, and the Island Kingdom water park offers waterslides and a wave pool for cooling off during the summer. The Tower of Doom ride closed in June 2007 due to concerns about the ride's safety.
