Free Days Denver Museums 2013

The Scientific & Cultural Facilities District sponsors free days for Colorado residents at Denver museums and cultural attractions. The SCFD sales and use tax of .01% goes toward funding the free admission, although corporate sponsors such as Target also support free days at the Denver Art Museum and free evenings at the Children's Museum of Denver.

The organization was created in 1988, and has distributed more than $711 million since its creation, according to the SCFD's 2011 annual report. The tax applies to residents of seven counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Jefferson and most of of Douglas County.

Not all free days are created equal, however. The Denver Art Museum holds free days at least once a month, while the Denver Zoo only holds free days in the winter, when people are less likely to visit the outdoor zoo. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts also offers a limited number of tickets at reduced prices through the program.
