Top Five Easter Events in Denver

By , About.com Guide

Celebrate Easter on Sunday, March 23, 2008 with our top picks for Denver activities. The morning starts early with a sunrise service at Red Rocks, and there's plenty of fun events for children all day long.

1. Sunrise Easter Service at Red Rocks

Early birds will appreciate the sunrise Easter service at Red Rocks on Sunday, March 23, 2008. The outdoor ampitheatre hosts a non-denominational service at 6 a.m., with gates opening at 4:30 a.m. Coffee is provided, and there is no charge for parking. If you feel like sleeping in, you can also just visit the restaurant at Red Rocks, the Ship Rock Grille, for Easter brunch. Either way, the views are guaranteed to be inspirational.

2. The Largest Easter Egg Hunt in Colorado

Copper Mountain hosts the largest Easter egg hunt in the state, with the Easter bunny dutifully scattering 50,000 eggs throughout the village and the mountain. Grown-ups can participate, too! Lucky winners could find "Copper Eggs" that can be redeemed for prizes. The event is free, with different times for each age group.

3. Easter Bunny Photos at King Soopers

The Easter Bunny has to visit the grocery store several times for all those 50,000 eggs. Catch the Easter Bunny in between shopping trips at area King Soopers stores, and you can get a free photo and greeting card with the erstwhile rabbit. The Easter Bunny will hop back and forth between stores every Saturday and Sunday in March, with locations stretching from Longmont to Highlands Ranch.

4. Make Reservations for Easter Brunch

Several restaurants around town offer special menus for Easter brunch, ranging from the traditional ham to the more exotic crab omelettes at Del Mar Crab House. Reservations are recommended for most establishments on Easter Sunday. Restaurants offering special Easter menus include Washington Park Grille, Mirepoix and Le Central.

5. Visit the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory

Support local business by visiting one of the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's locations in the Denver area for your chocolate Easter bunnies. The chocalatier started in Durango in 1981, and now has 323 locations worldwide. Don't miss sampling the fudge, which is made fresh daily! The stores also carry a wide selection of caramel apples.
