Starz Denver Film Festival 2012

35 Years of Film

The 35th-annual Starz Denver Film Festival features more than 10 days of film screenings in the Mile High City. Movie lovers can catch first glimpse of premieres of Hollywood films, as well as foreign films and documentaries.

"Election day is not the only big event happening this November. The Starz Denver Film Festival will celebrate its 35th edition with signature events and a diverse line-up of films from around the globe featuring everything from student shorts, to a 15-hour film, to some of Hollywood's most buzz-worthy Award Season releases," said Festival Director Britta Erickson in a statement.

The buzz-worthy releases include the "Silver Linings Playbook," starring Hollywood's Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence as photogenic misfits who fall in love after their lives fall apart. Other festival highlights include "A Late Quartet," starring Christopher Walken as a cellist who turns to music to help cope with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

Last year's films at the festival included Oscar winner "The Artist," "Melancholia" and "The Descendants." In 2010, the festival also featured "Black Swan" and "127 Hours."

Sponsored by Denver cable channel Starz, the festival also includes documentaries and short films. This year, the festival will also focus on films from Argentina. "Argentina is not only one of the most prolific film industries in South America, but perhaps the most diverse. We are extremely pleased to be screening a robust sidebar of films from Argentina, including a three-film tribute to Daniel Burman, one of the country's most successful cinematic exports," said Artistic Director Brit Withey in a statement.

The majority of regular screenings will take place at the Denver FilmCenter/Colfax at 2510 E. Colfax Ave, but other screenings will be held at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and the Denver Pavilions. No screenings are scheduled for the Tivoli Center this year. The film festival runs from Thurs. Nov. 1 - Sun. Nov. 11, 2012.
