Best Coffee Shops in Denver

Mile High Java

By

If you need a caffeine fix in the morning, check out Denver's independent coffee shops for a change from the ubiquitous Starbucks. Pablo's offers a homey spot for first dates, while Stella's is suited to students from the nearby University of Denver. Aviano whips up a mean cup of cappuccino for purists of the brew, while Buffalo Doughboy offers homemade pastries along with the java juice. Rooster and the Moon Coffee Pub takes it a step further with alcoholic beverages, in addition to the magical elixir of coffee.

1. Aviano Coffee

The sleek Aviano Coffee offers the best cup of cappuccino in town, served in the true European style in small white cups and saucers. The coffee bar offers a perfect spot to people watch in Cherry Creek North -- or just daydream about a vacation to Italy. Aviano offers Wi-Fi, although service can be spotty at times.

2. Pablo's Coffee

Pablo's Coffee has taken the unusual step of not offering Wi-Fi at their coffee shop, but there are always customers galore at the hipster hangout on 6th Avenue. The chatty baristas and comfy couches in one corner make Pablo's feel like an extension of your living room, but might not be the best choice if you're trying to grab a cup of coffee in a time crunch. Pablo's provides a pleasing palate for first dates, and also roasts its coffee in-house.

3. Stella's Coffeehaus

Stella's Coffeehaus on South Pearl Street opened its doors in a converted house in 1991. The coffee shop provides several hideaways perfect for studying, and has long been popular with students. The coffee is not roasted in-house, but is provided by Pablo's Coffee (see above.)

Buffalo Doughboy expanded from its original location by moving to a more spacious location on South Broadway. The bakery makes all of its own baked goods, from pies to muffins, as a tempting accompaniment to their coffee. Buffalo Doughboy is also a family-friendly coffee shop for parents and children.
